The recent scandal involving ex-British royal Sarah, Duchess of York prompts one writer to ask, “Is it worse to have had money and lost it than never to have had it at all?”

Another take on the scandal: Does money make you stupid?

Oops, I almost forgot to post this! Here’s a look at some of next month’s new royalty books. As always, publication dates are subject to change. A full list will be published on the Royalty.nu Books page on June 1.

The Sultan’s Shadow: One Family’s Rule at the Crossroads of East and West by Christiane Bird. Sultan Said became a ruler of Oman in 1804. An open-minded, tolerant man, he gained power through bloodshed. His daughter Salme scandalized her family by eloping with a German man.

Diana’s Secret London by Glenn Harvey and Mark Saunders. Photos of sites associated with Diana’s life, with maps and directions that readers can follow.

Philip II and Alexander the Great: Father and Son, Lives and Afterlives edited by Elizabeth Carney and Daniel Ogden. Articles about the careers, impact, and relationship of the two rulers.

Magna Carta and the England of King John by Janet S. Loengard. Essays about King John, his court, earlier Angevin rulers, and more.

Den of Wolves: Empress of Rome Book 1 by Luke Devenish. Fiction. In ancient Rome, future empress Livia Drusilla begins her rise to power.

Shadow of the Swords: An Epic Novel of the Crusades by Kamran Pasha. The 12th century sultan Saladin finds himself at war with King Richard the Lionheart and in love with a Jewish girl with a tragic past.

The Hostage Queen by Freda Lightfoot. Novel about 15th century French queen Marguerite de Valois, who was held hostage by her own family.

If you could only read one of these books, which would it be? I would pick “The Sultan’s Shadow” because of the unusual subject matter. There aren’t many books in English about royalty in the Middle East, Oman, and/or Arab princesses. Which book would you choose?

I’ll bet you didn’t know that Princess Eugenie is a Jedi knight. Here’s proof:

Historian and writer Paul Johnson says Princess Margaret had no money and the Queen Mother hated ivy. And that’s not all:

Diana told me she wanted to be an air hostess…but didn’t have the brains

Princess Firyal of Jordan is not writing a book “about a little girl being a peanut butter sandwich.”

Queen Rania of Jordan has co-authored a book called The Sandwich Swap, but I don’t think anyone in her story actually turns into a peanut butter sandwich. That might make a good sequel.
