Writer Barbara Taylor Bradford says the protagonist of her new novel, The Ravenscar Dynasty, is based “on the English medieval king, Edward IV… Significant events in the life of the medieval king are used in a modern form.”

Susan Howatch did something similar with her 1984 novel The Wheel of Fortune, which she called “a re-creation in a modern dimension of a true story,” with characters based on medieval English royals Edward the Black Prince, Joan of Kent, John of Gaunt, Richard II, Henry IV, and Henry V.
